Shadrach White

Shadrach White was one of the most interesting guest speakers and I was fascinated by his drive and the way he never gave up. Shadrach started from nothing and made his way to the top through perseverance and patience. I also believe that his character is what got him far because of how he interacts with people and because he is an all around nice guy. I am extremely passionate about basketball and when I saw that Shadrach started a rucker park jersey I was so pleased. For me I grew up on basketball and it is something that I put in a lot of effort and time in. Basketball brought a sense of community to my neighborhood and It brought people together from all backgrounds. When I saw the idea behind Shadrach   it just showed me that he was someone that really cared about what he was doing, again he is another guest speaker that was passionate about what he was doing. One thing that most the guest speakers had in common is that they were passionate about what they were doing and this is

Matt Tolentino

I was not in class for the day Matt Tolentino came as a guest speaker for our class. To benefit from this blog post I did some research on Matt. He is assistant professor within the electrical and computer engineering department at UWT. He has a PHD in computer science and holds over a dozen patents.  After doing some research I came across Matts resume and was surprised because it was over 9 pages long! I learned a lot through reading his resume and it showed a lot of his interests and skills. Reading over Matt Tolentino’s bio really had me thinking about myself and how I can improve the way I do things. Currently I struggle with many of my classes in my major and for me to become successful I need to become more inspired and driven. Matt is really amazing at coding because he has a PHD in computer science this is very inspirational to me because it shows that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. Even though Matt has a PHD in computer science he is a assistant professor t

Funding

Funding is a probably one of the biggest problems to starting your business since it is one of the hardest. After you have your idea and what to implement it and bring it to life you need some type of funding. In class we learned about the many steps to funding and where it starts off from. Funding happens in order, there’s self funding, friends and family, angel investment then after that when your company starts to get bigger there’s Venture capitol, first round, second round, mezzanine then finally IPO which is the highest level of funding. To start off my company I believe that I would need around 20,000, to rent a space and buy all the equipment/product. Now this is just an estimate so if I need any more I’d add on to this cost. To get funding I would first take money from my own personal accounts which would make up for about half the funding I need. The other half of my funding would come from my family, I know about three to four family members that would invest in my company

Erik Hanberg

There was many things I took from Eric Hanbergs talk but web marketing was one of the biggest thing I took from Eric. His ability to release something and market it before he even made the product was amazing. He experimented by putting out a book that he had not even written yet, I thought this was a brilliant marketing tactic because he was able to establish his audience and demand. Eric Hanberg is the “gig entrepreneur” and it really fascinated me how he took on so many different things at once. At one point he’s at a theatre and at another point he is at a talk show and then he’s writing his book. He’s doing so many things at once while I’m over here trying my best to focus on one topic. I believe this is a great skill to have a “jack of all trades” but it definitely isn’t something that you are born with. It seems like this is a skill you can adopt if you focus and put in the time and effort. One question I had for Eric that didn’t get answered is how did you deal with relations

Startup

This documentary was very interesting. It showed Khaleil and how he built his startup company. The documentary really showed a lot of the aspects that go into building your business and the way it showed it through the CEOs lenses was amazing. Khaleil faced a lot of struggles but not once did I see him give up. He literally says that “he refuses to lose” and it shows. This documentary shows a lot of the things we talked about in class. There’s partnerships, there’s talk about business partners, legal help with lawyers, hiring people and the different levels of the company. The hours of work that are put into the company are not really shown but you can tell that a lot of hours are put into everything. The two owners of the company khaleil and his friend are always arguing and have a lot of differences. They don’t agree on a lot of things but always come up with solution. One of the things I really admire about Khaliel is his ability to talk to people and communicate positively. Even

Assets

Protecting your assets is extremely important. It might be one of the most important things in your business. An asset is any resource claimed by the business. Anything substantial that can be possessed or controlled to create cash and that is held by an organization to deliver positive monetary esteem is an advantage. Just expressed, resources speak to estimation of possession that can be changed over into money. Now you ask yourself a qu estion, What are my assets? After you ask yourself this question you look if these assets can bring any profit to your business. If so then you should definitely find a way to protect your asset. Your assets are worth money and if they aren’t worth money now they will eventually over time. There are different types of assets, tangible and intangible. There’s assets you can physically touch and some that you can’t even see or might not even know they are an asset. One very important asset that many may not know are employees, the companies employe

Sharing of ideas

In the group of 3 that I was on I was very comfortable discussing my business plan because this a plan I’ve had in mind for years. I discussed the idea I had in my head and most the pros and cons that came with my idea. Everyone that I discussed my plan with also gave me positive feedback and constructive criticism. I know there’s many people that shy away from discussing their plan or don’t share because they are afraid someone will “ steal” their idea. I believe that if you have a creative idea and someone took it than it shows how amazing of a person you are. The possibilities are endless at that point you can come up with another idea just as good or even better. Other people in my group also discussed their ideas and I gave them positive feedback as well. I remember there was one person that had an idea of a tinder but for photographers, his idea was very unique and the amazing thing about this individual is that he actually said “You guys can run with this idea if y
